Nestle Set to Acquire Kraft’s Frozen Pizza Division Including California Pizza Kitchen Brand

Nestle's acquisition of Kraft’s frozen pizza

In a significant move within the food industry, Nestle is poised to expand its portfolio by acquiring Kraft’s frozen pizza business in the U.S. and Canada. The deal, valued at $3.7 billion, also encompasses the licensing rights for the California Pizza Kitchen brand. This acquisition marks a notable shift as Nestle aims to strengthen its position in the frozen food sector.

Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax, co-founders and co-CEOs of California Pizza Kitchen, expressed their enthusiasm about the transition. “After a successful thirteen-year partnership with Kraft, we are thrilled to begin a new chapter with Nestle. We anticipate a seamless integration and are eager to leverage Nestle’s robust distribution network to enhance our brand’s presence in the grocery channel,” they stated.

The sale, pending regulatory approval, is expected to close within the year, heralding a new era for the popular pizza brand. Nestle USA’s Chairman and CEO, Brad Alford, highlighted the strategic fit of the acquisition. “The addition of the frozen pizza segment complements our existing frozen food portfolio, which includes Stouffer’s, Lean Cuisine, Buitoni, Hot Pockets, and Lean Pockets. We foresee continued growth in the frozen pizza category, bolstered by the strong performance of the California Pizza Kitchen brand,” Alford explained.

This acquisition not only underscores Nestle’s commitment to enhancing its product offerings but also reflects the company’s strategic approach to growing its market share in the competitive frozen food industry. As Nestle and California Pizza Kitchen gear up for their future collaboration, both companies look forward to bringing premium, convenient dining options to consumers across North America.
